Manhattanhenge May 30th and 31st, 2010

According to the Hayden Planetarium, this year’s Manhattanhenge aka Manhattan Soltice will appear on Sunday 5/30 the 30th and Monday the 31st.

Half sun grid on Sunday – 8:17pm       Full sun grid on Monday – 8:24pm

The first time Jene took me to see this phenomenon was on my birthday, May 28, 2006.  l was thrilled and thought it romantic.  One of those special NY kind of things to see and it doesn’t cost you a penny (except for transportation into the city).  We parked ourselves on a bench in Central Park and waited with throngs of people young and old.  An amazing site in itself to see people pause in midstep and gaze out to the west.

(we happened across the framed heart that someone was tossing out and Jene gave it to me.  Yes I still have and cherish it – call me sentimental)

If you happen to be out of town, don’t fret, it happens again in July on the 11th and 12th.  According to Hayden Planetarium full sun on the 11th and 1/2 sun grid on the 12th.
