To me, every morning brings about a new beginning, a chance to start fresh. Some days, I wake full of pep and vinegar, other days are lack-luster and I get little accomplished. Oh well.
The winter’s blast of snow and chill has me wanting to find warm places to gather and I can’t think of any better places than art galleries. They are free to enter and a place to have brief encounters with strangers where you share a common interest in art. I don’t go merely to meet new people, but it is a pleasant side effect.
Thursday 1/6 curator Susanne Altmann’s talk starts a 5pm. “A woman’s work is never done” followed by the opening reception 6 – 8:30 at the A.I.R. Gallery 111 Front Street, Brooklyn. The exhibit runs 1/5 – 1/30
Wednesday 1/12 – Juried competition deadline for “Human + Being” is fast upon us – Center for Fine Art Photography I think I might enter a few images from my “Cambodia – Past and Present Tense” series. It’s all a crap shoot as any artist who submits images to juried exhibits can attest to, however if you are not in it, you can’t win it. Jene Youtt has a number of his photography prints that have won awards and believe me, he is one of many creative photographers who enter.
Friday 1/14 Opening reception 7 pm “Into the Void” exhibit at Icosahedron Gallery 606 West 26th St. NYC. Exhibit runs 1/8 – 1/29
Sunday 1/23 Opening reception 2 – 5pm “Art Collections 7” at the George Segal Gallery, Montclair University, 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair, NJ. The exhibit runs 1/18 – 2/19. This is their annual fundraising event with over 100 artists’ works in various mediums displayed and for sale for the discerning collectors. This juried exhibit is a must see as Jene and I each have a print showing.
Take a break from the cold, meet some artists and share a glass of wine while you peruse the collections of some of the finest artists in the metro area. A wonderful way to start the new year.
Wishing you a Happy Healthy New Year
